Boulby Mine Planning Consultation Continues

The coming week sees the continuation of the public consultation programme in advance of ICL Boulby submitting an application to the North York Moors Park Authority for permission to continue mining operations for a further 25 years.

Following the three exhibitions held over the past week  the next event will take place at Staithes Village Hall on Wednesday, October 9, from 2.00pm to 8.pm, followed by Skinningrove Village Hall on Thursday, October 10, from 2.00pm  to 8.00 pm. and Skelton Civic Centre, on Saturday, October 12, from 9.00am to 2.00pm.. The pre-application consultation programme, which ends on 30 October, will also involve meetings with local councils, businesses and community groups,

The current planning permission which has been in place since 1968 expires in 2023 Following the successful transition which saw the mine become the world’s first and only producer of the ground-breaking multi nutrient mineral polyhalite, the planning application is the next phase in the Building Boulby’s Future’ strategy which aims to drive forward an increase in production to a target of 1.3million tonnes per year by 2023, securing over 500 jobs and ensuring that the mine continues to make a major contribution to the economy of East Cleveland and the wider area.

Already over £30million has been invested in making the transition to polyhalite and Boulby products—marketed as Polysulphate—are now helping farmers and grower to increase growth and yields in countries across five continents.
