Technical Services Assistant

Role’s purpose:

• Assist with fulfilling the statutory responsibilities of the Tech Services Department.
• Carry out any duties within their experience and competence requested by any senior member of the Technical Services Department.
• Probe safety cover holes, exploration probe holes and map production developments and issue mining instructions.
• Probe exploration and ‘up’ probe holes in salt development roadways where necessary.
• Liaise with production overseers and Geology/Production management to ensure optimised, safe orebody extraction in compliance with Manager’s Rules 13 and 13a.
• Extend survey lines, mark up turnoff positions, maintain levelling circuits and carry out scans of mine workings.
• Download any data collected and update the database and plans as necessary.
• Install and monitor any geotechnical monitoring device, for example, extensometer vibrating wire stress monitors etc.
• Monitor and record convergence measurements.
• Maintain existing telltales and replace any damaged telltales.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Good knowledge and experience of duties performed by the Technical Services Department.
• Competent in use of computer software for planning the shifts work.
• Competent in the use of survey, geology and rock engineering equipment.
• Able to read and understand plans and instruction sheets.
• Good working knowledge of a mining environment.
• Relevant underground mining experience.
• Self-motivated and able to make decisions.
