A much-needed helping hand – thanks to employee generosity

If we had enough hands we would give all of our employees a pat on the back for their response to our ‘The Big Difference (Sustainability)’ campaign we ran a little earlier in the year, where we asked them to bring in items for us to donate to East Cleveland Good Neighbours who are based in Loftus.

Throughout the month of August, they  all came up trumps and we ended up with almost one hundred items. There was a lot of thought and consideration involved as well because, among the food which is obviously vital, there were games, toys and sanitary items.

In order to double up on your kindness we committed to donating five pounds for every item donated and we asked for suggestions as to where the donation should go. Right up there at the top of the list was the Senses Wellbeing Centre in Skelton.

That’s where the money went and it provided something of a breathing space for Karen Winspear the founder and driving force behind the much-valued service provider.

“When we first set up we got an incredible amount of support from the local community and businesses,” said Karen. “But everyone is struggling financially now and we fear that, as funding dries up, we may be forced to cut back on the services we provide. So this contribution is very important to our ability to maintain the services we provide.”

These services are unique in the area. The centre is inclusive and dementia friendly and caters for those with additional needs. There are no mirrors to tackle issues such as body image and lack of confidence. There is an amazing fit for purpose venue with changing facilities, adult changing and mobile hoist.

The centre is open seven days a week and provides a safe, warm and non-judgmental space for all attendees. Among the many services the seated chair classes, held every Wednesday, are very popular and a lifeline for some in the community.

We are delighted that, thanks to our employees generosity of spirit, we have played a part in making sure that support is maintained.
