Community fund puts new club on the ball

Support from ICL Boulby’s Community Funding programme is helping to put basketball on the map in the Whitby and East Cleveland area.

A grant of £1,500 from the Community Fund has been described as a fantastic gesture by Graeme Lindoe, Chairman of the recently-established Whitby Jets Club which is open to children from seven to eighteen years and is already attracting around 50 youngsters to its weekly training sessions at Whitby Leisure Centre.

Says Mr Lindoe “Our ethos is to promote basketball as a way of encouraging a healthy active lifestyle, together with a positive wellbeing. Working as a team we support each other to become the best version of ourselves.

“We aim to offer a friendly, safe and inclusive environment and the support from the Boulby Community Fund will be used to enhance our coaching and player development, supporting involvement in the Basketball England Aspire Programme.”

The club has already purchased official Basketball England balls for its under-12 and under-18 teams, as well as ordering an under-14 uniform kit, with training bibs.
