Getting the most out of Polysulphate

What is Polysulphate®?

Polysulphate, from the polyhalite mineral, is a combination of four nutrients: sulphur, magnesium, calcium and potassium. These nutrients, particularly when combined, promote healthy crop yields, strength and overall growth. Polysulphate® has a number of benefits making it an obvious choice for farmers worldwide.

Mined here in the UK at our Boulby Mine, this savvy fertiliser is used around the globe, owing to its unique and powerful effects on crops and soil degradation. It’s also a favourite for environmentalists who are conscious of what fertilisers they choose to use. Our Polysulphate® product has a low carbon footprint, making it a great contender.

Polysulphate™ is readily available in its natural state, and this means it has achieved organic status with the Soil Association. It comes ready in its soluble form for immediate spreading use.

Advise for using Polysulphate®

Polysulphate® performs well on a range of crops, soils, seeds and cereals. Here we will explain how best to get the most from two different types of application. Whatever your area of farming, we hope you will find this advice useful.

Arable Crops
At the beginning of the spring growth cycle, Polysulphate® can be applied in one dressing. Matching the sulphur requirements to the crop’s nitrogen needs is key here. When nitrogen rates are varied, such as in precision farming, it can be applied independently according to each of your crop’s nitrogen needs.

Livestock Farmers
The typical application of slurry and manure has long been a method for keeping soils fertile, in order to assist with plant growth. However, manure and slurry cannot be relied on as a source of available sulphate. That’s why we recommend that Polysulphate® is added in line with nitrogen requirements in order to achieve optimum grass growth at the correct N:S ratio.
