It’s time to sign up for this year’s ‘PolyPotato’ contest

As more and more people consider growing their own produce to help with the rising cost of living ICL Boulby in East Cleveland is offering local residents the opportunity to again get involved in this year’s Ord Jack Tatey ‘PolyPotato’ competition.

Ord Jack is the mascot for the competition which invites entrants to collect potato growing kits from the mine and use the unique fertiliser PotashpluS, produced at Boulby, to achieve prize-winning crops.

Says ICL Boulby’s Head of Agronomy Scott Garnett who’ll be providing advice on how to get the best potatoes “This is a great way to promote the message about being environmentally conscious, especially encouraging youngsters to get involved and understand about sustainability.

“Once you’ve signed up for the competition you’ll be given information on how to get a kit and how to grow the potatoes with the help of PotashpluS. When the growing season has finished winners will be chosen in three categories—largest potato, largest yield and uniformity of three potatoes.”

Winners will receive vouchers and an official ‘Ord Jack Tatey’ certificate. In addition there will be a chance to win £100 for the most creative selfie using Ord Jack’s moustache.

Entrants must be within collection distance of the mine.
