Building Boulby’s Future

To deliver our strategy we will continue our multi-million pound investment programme that includes development of our people as well as the three significant planning issues.

New Minerals Planning Permission

Our current planning permission ends in 2023 and we will be making an application to the North York Moors National Park Authority to continue operations for another 25 years.

Rationalisation of surface buildings

After more than 40 years of production, our operational needs from the buildings on the surface are changing.  As part of the minerals planning application, we will be reviewing our building needs with the NYMNPA and will be applying for some changes, which could result in a reduction in the overall number of buildings over the next few years.

Below Ground Stabilisation

We are looking to implement a mine stabilisation programme using one tonne blocks to strengthen existing roadways throughout the mine where we need access to our brine pumping facilities.  This programme involves gaining planning permission for a block manufacturing plant on Teesside, and once made they would be brought to the mine using the dedicated railway.
